by Steven Skelley and Thomas Routzong

What many people may not know is that this iconic local property also houses the Fishermen's Village Resort. If you are a traveler that enjoys ample space, comfortable accommodations and one of the best locations on Florida's Gulf Coast, you'll want to place Fishermen's Village Resort on the top of your list of places to stay in the Charlotte Harbor.
If you are thinking, "A hotel room is a hotel room," you are so wrong. Fishermen's Village Resort doesn't offer hotel rooms. This resort offers roomy, two-bedroom, one-bath 1,000-square foot villas that sleep six comfortably.
In addition to the two bedrooms, every villa offers a second floor, open-air loft bedroom and a sleeper sofa in the living room.
Do you like cooking your own breakfast, lunch or dinner occasionally and dining in? Fishermen's Village Resort villas feature fully equipped kitchens and balconies overlooking Charlotte Harbor.
"When I go on vacation, I look for a place like this. But, Fishermen's Village Resort is very unique," Kathy Burnam, Fishermen's Village's Marketing Director told us. "We are very connected to our community. We donate regularly to local charities. We house a Military Museum with over 30,000 artifacts. We have over one million lights here during our Christmas season. We have over 10,000 attendees to our Pirate Festival each year. For pet lovers, we host an Easter Bone-Hunt for dogs and BarktOberfest where pet owners and pets dress in costume and there is even a Weiner Dog Derby with Dachsund races just for fun!"
There is no reason to worry about being crowded by event attendees. The Fishermen’s Village Resort villas are "tucked Key West style above the inviting village center." The entire resort is located on the second-floor! Guests can step out of their rooms onto a spacious promenade and watch every wonderful thing happening below.
Fishermen’s Village Resort amenities include a free loaner bicycle program, free cable television and DVD player, a heated pool, tennis courts, shuffleboard, barbecue grills and a picnic area, laundry facilities and wireless internet.
