Land's End Inn
Provincetown, Massachusetts
A historical, artistic, natural and meditative treasure
by Steven Skelley & Thomas Routzong
Stepping through the door of Land's End Inn in Provincetown, Massachusetts is like stepping into another world. At first, it is hard to believe your eyes. The delightful blend of gorgeous antiques, eclectic art, global memorabilia, crackling fires in the wall-sized stone fireplace, comfortable seating and stunning bay views makes Land's End Inn one of the most unique and cherished properties that we have ever had the pleasure of enjoying anywhere in the world.
Land's End Inn owners Stan and Eva Sikorski are world travelers and art lovers who fell in love with the property during their visits to Provincetown for more than 40 years. Their love for this property and the Provincetown community is apparent. Just ask them about either subject and smiles will immediately come to their faces and their eyes will light up with excitement.
Stan told us why he feels that Provincetown is so special. "Why is this place unique? It’s the first place where the Pilgrims landed in 1620 and it is documented that they made landfall across the street from our Inn. Did you know that the charter the Pilgrims created to govern themselves served as a model for the Massachusetts Constitution and later as input to the American Constitution? It was one of the first official governing documents where equality and tolerance were introduced. So there is a very important historical legacy here including Provincetown’s evolution from a whaling town to the birthplace of American arts (both performing and fine arts) and its pioneering role in equal rights in the 20th century America."
"Provincetown is endowed with some of the most magnificent natural wonders in the world. The flora, fauna and geography come together to create a virtual paradise of the senses. Some of us are lucky to live here and we also love to share this abundance with the multitude of visitors who come from all over the world. Also, we are lucky that everything is within easy reach. Once you arrive you can park your car and get to most attractions by walking or bicycle," Sikorski said.
The historic Land’s End Inn in Provincetown’s West End is literally at the land's end. The views are simply magnificent with ships sailing by, whales making appearances, and two lighthouses in sight.
Stan and Eva offer what they call "exquisite bed and breakfast accommodations with panoramic ocean views as well as distinctive service."
Land’s End Inn features private decks and patios, indoor and outdoor guest common areas for reading, relaxation, romance or reflection, a sunny dining room, spectacular great room with its magnificent fireplace, and a cozy solarium which affords expansive ocean views and awesome sunsets.
Breakfast at Land's End Inn is an event in itself. A full continental breakfast is served daily including freshly squeezed orange juice, hot muffins and breads, gourmet coffees and teas, fresh fruits, hot and cold cereals, yogurt and specialty jams. Guests can enjoy breakfast from the verandah while taking in the panoramic view of Provincetown Harbor, in the lush gardens, or even back in one’s room for breakfast in bed.
Stan wants guests to feel comfortable at breakfast. "We want them to feel at home first of all which means to be comfortable and feel free to enjoy any part of the Inn including the public areas like the solarium, the great room, dining room, veranda and the gardens. It makes me feel great when I see a guest enjoying their first cup of coffee in their PJ's while reading the Times or the Globe"
But - the Sikorski's treat their guests to more than just a fantastic continental breakfast. Complimentary fruit and beverages including bottled water, soft drinks, gourmet coffees and teas, are available throughout the day. During the warmer months, guests are also invited to enjoy the iced tea and lemonade station set up on the veranda. They also offer early evening social hours - wonderful opportunities for guests to meet over wine, cocktails and beverages accompanied by cheese and crudités.
Even though Land’s End Inn is a destination within itself, if guests want to enjoy nightlife, shopping, dining and entertainment, downtown Provincetown is just a short walk away.
The Sikorskis are very supportive of their community and the arts.
Stan told us, "At the Inn we have several fund raisers each year. In 2013 we had a great 4th of July with live music and the best view of the town fireworks where we raised over $5K for Cape Cod Development Partners. We also had a great party in December for the Holly Follies where we’ve had 800 people visit us and we were able to raise $17K for the Provincetown Art Association and Museum. We also sponsor the Open Mic at the Mews Restaurant where some very talented musicians come to entertain us from October to May We offer a free room to the headliners. As a result, we’ve met many wonderful and very talented people. We’ve been lucky to have them come back to the Inn on numerous occasions to entertain our guests and neighbors."
Guests choose Land's End Inn for many reasons. It has something for everyone.
"We also want to provide a refuge from their daily challenges where they can clear their mind and enjoy the beauty we are blessed with in Provincetown. We have many guests who are living through some serious life challenges and come to the Inn to get a short respite. We also get a big thrill when we see our guests really enjoying themselves and this joy manifests itself in so many different ways. There is nothing better than true friendships and many have been formed at our Inn. For example we have groups of people who come at the same time each year and spend real quality time together. Some of these groups have been meeting at the Land’s End Inn for over 20 years," Stan said.
