Navarre Beach/Santa Rosa County Adds New Restaurants and Activities Plus a Rebranded Campground that Allows Dogs on the Beach
Navarre Beach/ Santa Rosa County is a relaxing oasis amid other bustling tourist spots in the Florida Panhandle. Yet there’s still plenty to do, and a variety of places to eat, drink, hang out and have fun. We may not develop at the frenetic speed of other nearby destinations, but new eateries and activities are coming on line all the time. Here’s a quick overview of a few of the latest developments for visitors to enjoy.
Black Skimmer Grille -- Located in Navarre’s gold-standard golf course, Hidden Creek, this new restaurant serves upscale burgers, local beers and an array of hearty comfort foods, all out of a scratch-style kitchen. It’s the ideal 19th hole stop, as well as a destination place for locals and visitors to Navarre Beach and Historic Milton. The Black Skimmer, named for a local shore bird, features big-screen TVs, dartboards, a full bar, and outdoor seating that overlooks the golf course’s rolling terrain.
Island Dogs -- Navarre Beach has a strict no-dogs policy — canines that is. Hot dogs are another story, and Island Dogs has opened for people to munch on its bun-length, quarter-pound, all beef ‘dogs (and sausages) — with sun, sand and the sound of the Gulf just moments away. Island Dogs is located on the north side of Gulf Boulevard a few hundred yards from the Causeway.
The Hideaway Retreat -- The former Magnolia Beach Campground has been spruced up and rebranded under new ownership. Nestled under mature oak and magnolia trees, it’s an Old Florida-style campground with oversized RV sites. The five-acre Hideaway offers 371 feet of private beach on Santa Rosa Sound. Plus — and it’s a big plus — the Hideaway is the only local campground that permits dogs on the beach.
Sage Paddle Co. -- Navarre Beach’s go-to place for beach-fun rentals now has motorized scooters to go along with its array of kayaks, paddleboards and bicycles. Sage has a sizeable fleet of more than 30 scooters of different sizes, power and colors. Rental fees range from $35 to $50 an hour.
New breakfast options -- Relaxing in Navarre Beach has a way of making you hungry in the morning, plus you need to fuel up for the day ahead. Two popular restaurants started serving breakfast not long ago. Windjammers on the Pier offers standard stuff like omelets, waffles, French toast and biscuits & gravy. East River Smokehouse in Navarre, overlooking Santa Rosa Sound, has breakfast staples, plus options that allow you to add their famous smoked meats. (Pulled pork omelet? Yum.) Both serve breakfast ’til 10:30 a.m.
Beaches to Woodlands -- Every weekend mid-Sept to mid-Nov visitors celebrate the season at over 40 events held from the shores of Navarre Beach to the Blackwater River State Forest, and everywhere in between. “Beaches to Woodlands” 2019 features corn mazes and pumpkin patches, races, bird watching, ghost walks, the Navarre Beach Fishing Rodeo,30th Annual Jay Peanut Festival, Munson Community Heritage Festival, live music events, locally harvested food and more. www.GetRelaxing.com for the schedule of fall fun.
Located between Pensacola and Destin/Fort Walton Beach, Florida's Most Relaxing Place — whose communities include Navarre Beach, Gulf Breeze, historic Milton — is an easy drive from most anywhere in the Southeast.
The area features Florida’s most relaxing beaches that have soft, pearl white sand and emerald waves, breathtaking sunsets and inland waterway adventures to savor at an unrushed pace in a laidback atmosphere.
