Smith Point County Park - the lost nude beach on Fire Island, New York

For decades, nude beachgoers enjoyed Smith Point County Park on Fire Island in New York. 

Unfortunately, the state passed a puritanical anti-nudity law. At first the park's supervisor refused to enforce the law on Federal land within the Federal park. When a new supervisor took over the park, a statement was issued, “Effective immediately, state nudity laws will be enforced at Fire Island National Seashore.”

This is a good lesson for nudists and naturists everywhere. Be on guard for those who seek to take away our freedoms and fight their efforts while there is still time.

The National Park Service website says, "Smith Point County Park is located at the eastern end of Fire Island. While it lies within the boundaries of Fire Island National Seashore, this area is not managed by the National Park Service. The park is accessible by car via the William Floyd Parkway. Parking is available in the Smith Point County Park lot (fee charged) for access to the Otis Pike Fire Island High Dune Wilderness and Wilderness Visitor Center."

Baker Beach is San Francisco, California's clothing optional beach with beautiful views of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Their website says, "Mile-long Baker Beach lies at the foot of rugged serpentine cliffs west of the Golden Gate. Large waves, undertow and rip currents make the beach unsafe for swimming, but it provides panoramic views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Marin Headlands and Lands End. You can fish or check out the shorelife along the beach and rocky shoreline. Restrooms and picnic tables are nearby. The northernmost end of Baker Beach is frequented by clothing-optional sunbathers."

Cougar Hot Springs 
Eugene, Oregon's nude hot springs

Located in the Willamette National Forest near Eugene, Oregon, these hot springs flow down a tiered grade, with pools below cooling as they become further and further from the source above.

Nudity can be expected at both the springs and the swimming hole. The hot springs are constructed, but very rustic, pools set into the hillside. The source and top pool is the hottest, with the temperature cooling as it travels from pool to pool down the hill. There are eight pools ranging from 3-12 feet across and about 2-3 feet deep. The source is 112 degrees F and cools accordingly. Mostly on bedrock, the floor does have some gravel, sand and debris at the bottom. The area is day-use only and sees an abundance of use. Please do your part to keep the site pristine.

According to their website, "Collins Beach on Sauvie Island has a clothing-optional area. The beach is one mile long and begins about 0.25 miles after Reeder Road becomes gravel. Hours are 04:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. every day. The beach has been popular for nude use since at least the 1970's."

Dragonfly Beach 
A private nude beach in Northeast Wisconsin

Dragonfly Beach is a nude beach in Northeast Wisconsin located on private property.

According to their website, "Welcome to Dragonfly Beach! A Clothes Optional (Skinny Dipping) Family-Friendly Swimming area located near Brillion in northeast Wisconsin. The pond was built in 1987 on the highest part of our small 17 acre farm. This was to prevent any field runoff or contamination from neighboring farms. I was fortunate that this location was solid clay versus the sand or gravel found in other locations on my farm. 2000 cubic yards of clay were removed and banked on the south and east sides to create a pond with approximately 750,000 gallons of water. I had many loads of sand trucked in to create a sandy beach and pond bottom except for the 10 ft deep end. The pond is filled from rain, snowmelt and water pumped from a deep well that can supply 25 gallons a minute when needed. "
